Tues. 3/4 All day. Mardi Gras at Hands On! – Make masks & celebrate Mardi Gras with a special snack 10:30 am provided by the Hendersonville Community Co-op, while supplies last. Free with $5 admission/Free for members.

 

Tues. 3/4 11 am. Mad Scientists Lab – Plastic Dough. 3 years & up. $7 non-members (includes admission for child participating in class); free for members. Sponsored by BP Fueling Communities. Limited spaces. Please call to register. Mad Scientists Lab will be held every Tuesday in March – come see what the Mad Scientists have cooked up!

Wed. 3/5-Fri. 3/7 All day. Happy Birthday, Dr.Seuss! All ages. Make a bookmark craft and celebrate the man who has helped so many learn to read! Other events this month celebrating Dr. Seuss, will be Book n’ Craft on Wednesday, March 19th "Horton Hears a Who", and Critter Craft on March 20th creating elephants – like Horton! Sponsored by the NISE net and The National Science Foundation. Free with $5 admission/free for members.

 

 Fri. 3/7 4 pm. 10 Minute Plays by The Wildwood Players. All ages. Join a spirited home-schooled thespian group as they perform two short plays. The plays are "Chicken Little" and "How Birds Fly".  Free with $5 admission/free for members.

 

Thurs. 3/6 11 am. Healthy Kids Club – Smile Time Friends! Ages 2-5 years. Join Diana Rothweiler, Public Health Registered Dental Hygienist, as she presents a high-quality dental health puppet show. The puppet show teaches dental health concepts through music, songs & stories. The characters are colorful & children readily relate to their message. The program lasts approximately 30 minutes. Free with $5 admission/free for members. Sponsored by the Henderson County Department of Public Health.  During this time, Dr. Richard Reid from Reid & Reid Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics will facilitate a dental question and answer for curious parents. Sponsored by Drs. Allison & Richard Reid, Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics.

 

Wed. 3/12 All day. GRAND OPENING of "Build Your Brain"! All ages. Build your brain through play. When children play, connections are made in the brain that lay the foundation for life-long learning. Come invite learning into play in this new exhibit sponsored by Duke Energy, Exxon Mobil, and The Glass Foundation. Integrate art, science & math by creating giant sculptures with Imagination Playground blocks, and examine forces & motion with the Archimedes Screw & Bernoulli Blower. Free with $5 admission/free for members.

 

Thurs. 3/13 All day. Build Your Brain with Words! All ages. Come learn about words & reading with a favorite storybook dog, Martha, in the book "Martha Speaks!"  Do-it-yourself activities all day and book readings at 11:30 am and 2:30 pm. Sponsored by Fountainhead Bookstore. Free with $5 admission/free for members.

 

Fri. 3/14 10:30 am – 12 noon and 2-4 pm. Build Your Brain with Art - Create a Kite. All ages. Practice creating functional sculpture by learning to create a kite. Free with $5 admission/free for members.

 

Tues. 3/18 All day. St. Patty’s Day Treasure Hunt. All ages. Try your hand at the luck o’ the Irish. Follow the clues to the treasure at the end of the rainbow!. Free with $5 admission/free for members.

 

Wed. 3/19 11 am. Book n’ Craft. All ages. Listen to the strange tale of the Dr. Seuss book "Horton Hears a Who" & complete a craft. Sponsored by the NISE net & The National Science Foundation. This program is a preview of exciting Nano Science activities that Hands On! will host as part of a nationwide Nano Science extravaganza starting Friday, March 28th and April 1-4. Free with $5 admission/free for members.

 

Thurs. 3/20 All day. Critter Craft – Create elephants – like Horton!. All ages. Drop-in self-directed activity in our Party Room. Free with $5 admission/Free for members. Sponsored by Etowah Valley Vet Hospital.
 
Sat. 3/22 10 am -12 noon & 2-4 pm. Money Makes Cents! Ages 7-12. Play games and explore the history of money, budgeting, and earn five dollars! $10 for non-members (includes museum admission for the rest of the day)/free for members. This program aligns with financial literacy badges for Girl Scouts and Brownies. Limited spaces; call to reserve yours! 697-8333.

 

Thurs. 3/27 4-7pm. Kindergarten Readiness Rally. Dr. Bunson & Dr. Beaker will be there to showcase Mad Scientists on Wheels and do some Hands On! Forces & Motion science for pre-schoolers getting ready for Kindergarten. Join us at the Blue Ridge Mall.

 

Fri. 3/28 All day. Nano Days Kick-off! Hands On! is one of 250 educational institutions across the country celebrating Nano Days. This is our third year of participation in this nation-wide extravaganza featuring science demonstrations, experiments & exhibits focused on the science of the very, very small. Sponsored by The NISE net and The National Science Foundation, and is an official event of the NC Science Festival. Free with $5 admission/free for members.

 

Sat. 3/29 7-9 pm. Family Science Night at Hands On! -  the Nano science of Camping Gear featuring our fantastic partners: REI, Pardee Signature Care, UNC-Asheville & Fountainhead Bookstore. Hands On! educators will present nanoscience experiments and demonstrations to show off the technology used in camping gear. How is your tent waterproof? How can that bike be so light? REI will be on-hand with the camping gear for participants to check-out and UNC-Asheville chemistry faculty will reveal the science behind the really cool gear!  Pardee Signature Care will speak about keeping safe as you camp & the nano science involved in first aid. Fountainhead Bookstore will have books on camping and science. Enjoy Nano Bite treats, door prizes and coupons. If you love science & camping, you will love this event! $5 per person (non-member); $2 per person (Hands On! member). Limited spaces. The mission of Hands On! is to provide children and families with "hands on" educational experiences that stimulate the imagination and motivate learning in a fun, safe environment. Special classes are offered in the facility all year long, and teachers can call Hands On! to learn about traveling programs available in schools.  Hands On! is located at 318 N.  Main Street.
