Tony Award Winning Musical Takes StageJuly 22nd

This vibrant, highly anticipated musical hits on all sixeswith book by Arthur Laurents, musicby Jule Styne, and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Based on the true story of 1930s burlesque star,Gypsy Rose Lee,the play follows her journey when she was just Louise Havoc performing in traveling shows with her sister, Dainty June and overbearing mother, Mama Rose. When June rebels from her mother’s show biz plans, it’s up to Louise to become the star Mama Rose has always wanted. Originally directed by Jerome Robbins, Gypsyfirst premiered on Broadway in 1959 at the Broadway Theatre and starredEthel Mermanas Mama Rose and Sandra Church as Louise. The show received rave reviews and was nominated for eight Tony Awards including Best Musical.Gypsyhas seen a total of four Tony Award winning Broadway revivals, first in 1974 starring Angela Lansbury, 1989 with Tyne Daly, 2003 with Bernadette Peters and 2008 with Patti LuPone and is currently running its West End Revival with Imelda Staunton. With lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, who would go on to write the music and lyrics for such notable works asInto the Woods,A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, andSweeney Todd,Gypsydelivers on all fronts of song, dance and show biz.

Starring as the ultimate stage mother, Mama Rose, is returning VagabondKlea Blackhurstwho has accredited impressive leading lady roles in such performances asEverything That Traffic Will Allow – The Songs and Sass of Ethel Mermen, Anything Goes,and Oil City Symphony. Blackhurst has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Sharing the stage with Blackhurst in the principal roles areStephanie Cowanas Louise,Libby Servaisas Dainty June,Stewart Gregoryas Herbie,Samantha and Clancy Pennywill alternate in the role of Baby June withCaroline Quinnas Baby Louise.
