Lucky Duck Drop for Education

Ever seen 5,000 rubber ducks drop from a crane at once? Residents will have the chance to see the spectacle in May for a good cause at the 2nd annual ROTARY LUCKY DUCKY DROP on Main Street .The Rotary Club of Hendersonville is planning the event May 5, 2018 in front of the Historic Courthouse. Purpose of this Lucky Duck Drop is to raise funds for Rotary’s Teacher Grant program. The Teacher Grant program provides, through a competitive grant process, funding for innovative programs not funded through the school’s budget. For example,
In 2017, the Rotary Education Committee reviewed over one-hundred-fifty proposals with a total financial request amount exceeding $75,000.
A large pool will be set up on the courthouse plaza. A crane or fire engine will drop 5,000 ducks into the pool, and each duck matches a ticket number that a person has purchased. Once the ducks have been dropped, a net will pull out a select few lucky duckies. The drop process will be repeated several times until six ducks have been chosen. The event will take place from 9am to noon that day. In addition to the LUCKY DUCKY DROP, the day will start with a family fun run entitled DUCK WADDLE. Between 9 and 12 there will be music and other fun activities. Main Street will stay open throughout the event, but parking spaces in front of the courthouse will be closed from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The first-place duck will receive $2,000, second-place duck $500, third-place duck $250, fourth-place duck $150 and fifth- and sixth-place ducks $50 each.
