Author Danny Freeman signs his book, “Ain’t Dead Yet” on October 3rd, at Love Hendo-Shop Local Event and in Recognition of National Physical Therapy Month Hendersonville, NC

Danny Freeman signs copies of his memoir: Ain’t Dead Yet: Winning a Wrestling Match Against Guillain-Barre’ at the corner of 5th and Main Streets in Hendersonville. Freeman, a former pro wrestler and correctional officer, was stricken with the debilitating Guillain-Barre’ Syndrom (GBS) which left him paralyzed.

On September 24, 2015 Freeman left work. After a workout he went home. He woke to use the bathroom and was overcome with numbness and weakness before hitting the floor. He was diagnosed with GBS, leaving him paralyzed for 4 months. Little research is devoted to GBS and he was told there was a “Better than average chance that his internal organs would begin to shut down.” He recalls fog-like dreams in his hospital bed. It was during those dreams, he later found out, that he came close to death.
GBS is a rare condition with fewer than 20,000 cases per year. Symptoms include weakness, tingling in the feet and legs that spread to the upper body. Paralysis can occur. There is no cure for GBS.

Freeman, who lives in Nebo, NC., typed his manuscript from a wheelchair at his desk with his two index fingers. He doesn’t need the wheelchair anymore but he says it’s the most comfortable seat to type in. After much physical therapy, he seeks to inspire with a message of hope. “What I want people to walk away with is just an attitude that it doesn’t matter what they’re facing, how bad it is, if you’ll keep trying and keep a positive outlook, you might just be able to get through it.
