Blue Ridge Symphonic Brass at First Baptist Church of Brevard

November 17, 2019 @ 3:00 am - 5:00 pm

Maestro Jamie Hafner will lead the BLUE RIDGE SYMPHONIC BRASS (BRSB) in a free brass concert on Sunday, November 17 at First Baptist Church of Brevard.  The BRSB, a twenty-plus member brass choir, is dedicated to sharing the unique symphonic brass repertoire with music patrons in our communities.  The 3:00 PM concert is free and open to the public (donations accepted).

The program may surprise those not familiar with the wide variety of repertoire possible with a brass ensemble.  The concert opens with the Fanfare and Chorus by Dietrich Buxtehude and includes a brass version of the beautiful Sevilla by Spanish composer Isaac Albeniz, an antiphonal version of  Giovanni Gabrieli’s Canzona Septimi Toni No.2,  a lighthearted  version of the early ragtime tune Nola and Poéme Heroique by French composer Marcel Dupré that will showcase the magnificence of the brass with organ.

The Blue Ridge Symphonic Brass draws its outstanding musicians from the Brevard, Hendersonville, Asheville and Greenville areas.  Many perform with professional orchestras and bands or teach at universities and schools in the region.  The ensemble’s instrumentation includes trumpets, horns, euphoniums, trombones, tubas and percussion.  Conductor Jamie Hafner is a well known musical personality, having most recently served as Director of Bands at Brevard College.  He is Director Emeritus of Bands at The University of Toledo and Director Emeritus of Education at the Brevard Music Center.  Maestro Hafner is also currently the conductor of the Brevard Community Band.
