Blue Ridge Symphonic Brass Season Opener

November 18, 2018 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

The BLUE RIDGE SYMPHONIC BRASS, conducted by Maestro Jamie Hafner, is pleased to announce the opening concert of the season on Sunday, November 18 at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Hendersonville.  The BRSB, a twenty-plus member brass choir, is dedicated to sharing the unique  symphonic brass repertoire with music patrons in our communities.  The 4:00 PM concert will also feature Trinity’s organist, Stephen Klein, and is free and open to the public (donations accepted).

The program may surprise those not familiar with the wide variety of repertoire possible with a brass choir.  The concert opens with the “Vienna Philharmonic Fanfare” by Richard Strauss and also includes brass versions of Ravel’s “Pavane for a Dead Princess”, selections from Ottorio Respighi’s “Ancient Airs and Dances” and the popular “Irish Tune from County Derry”.  The organ and brass join forces for the “Ancient Airs” and “Pavane”, and the concert wouldn’t be complete without an antiphonal selection by Giovanni Gabrieli!

The Blue Ridge Symphonic Brass draws its outstanding musicians from the Brevard, Hendersonville, Asheville and Greenville areas.  Many perform with professional orchestras and bands or teach at universities and schools in the region.  The ensemble’s instrumentation includes trumpets, horns, euphoniums, trombones, tubas and percussion.  Conductor Jamie Hafner is a well known musical personality, having most recently served as Director of Bands at Brevard College.  He is Director Emeritus of Bands at The University of Toledo and Director Emeritus of Education at the Brevard Music Center.  Maestro Hafner is also currently the conductor of the Brevard Community Band.
