SUMMARY:City of Hendersonville Roadside Mowing Starts April 27
DESCRIPTION:The City of Hendersonville Public Works Department will be conducting roadside mowing on City streets starting April 27 and continuing until late September. Roadside vegetation management is an important part of keeping the transportation network safe and accessible. Regular mowing and trimming improves visibility of traffic signs\, preserves sightlines for motorists\, cyclists\, and pedestrians\, and helps keep sidewalks clear of overhanging limbs\, branches\, and other obstructions. \n\n“Maintaining safe and accessible streets and sidewalks requires regular attention to vegetation along our roadways\,” said Assistant City Manager – Public Services Brent Detwiler. “Our Public Works team uses side-arm mowing to efficiently manage vegetation along more than 68 miles of City streets\, helping keep sightlines open and ensuring roads\, bike lanes\, and sidewalks remain safe and accessible for everyone in our community.” \n\nBecause of the large number of roadway miles the City maintains\, side-arm mowing is the most effective and efficient method for managing roadside vegetation on a citywide basis. Property owners can play an important role by helping keep vegetation on their property trimmed back from the public right-of-way and sidewalks. \n\nFor homes adjacent to roadways\, bushes\, shrubs\, tree limbs\, and other vegetation should be kept out of the roadway and maintained approximately 1-2 feet behind the curb or edge of pavement with a recommended vertical clearance of approximately 16 feet above the road surface. \n\nFor properties with sidewalks\, owners are encouraged to keep sidewalks fully clear and accessible by trimming vegetation so that pedestrians have an unobstructed walking path.  As a general guideline\, sidewalks should remain clear to a minimum height of 8 feet\, and no vegetation\, limbs\, shrubs\, or other objects should extend into the walking path. \n\nKeeping sidewalks clear is especially important to ensure safe passage for individuals using wheelchairs\, walkers\, strollers\, and other mobility devices\, and to help maintain an accessible pedestrian route for all users. \n\nProperty owners near intersections are also asked to trim vegetation and remove debris to preserve clear sightlines for motorists entering and exiting intersections. \n\nResidents’ assistance in maintaining vegetation adjacent to their property helps improve public safety\, reduce the need for side-arm mowing impacts near private landscaping\, and support accessible travel throughout the community. \n\nFor more information about the roadside mowing program\, please visit https://www.hendersonvillenc.gov/public-works or contact the City’s Public Works Department at 828-697-3084.

If\nyou’ve never seen a show under these trees\, you have to experience it.”\nThe concert will take place on Thursday\, August 13\, 2026\, at 6:00 PM in the Cradle of\nForestry’s outdoor amphitheater. Gates open at 5:30 PM.\nSongcatchers is an annual event dedicated to preserving and sharing the traditional music of\nAppalachia. DESCRIPTION:On August 29\, 2026\, at 7:30pm\, Missy Bell of Mouse House Productions will premiere her debut feature film: Erased\, at the Diana Wortham Center for the Performing Arts. The tender-hearted drama stars local actors Thomas L. Townsend\, Elias Hamilton\, and Lauren H. Davis. \nWhen Missy Bell wrote the screenplay for her debut feature film\, she had no way of knowing shooting would land in the wake of Hurricane Helene. \nCo-producers Missy and Michael Bell\, joked with the crew\, “If we can flush\, we can film!” as production dates approached for shooting the hope-core drama\, Erased. \nMichael said\, “It ended up that just one day before the deadline we’d set for ourselves\, we got non-potable water back in the pipes.” Filming took place in November and December of 2024\, and the film was completed in September 2025. \nMissy and Michael run their production company\, Mouse House Productions\, in a collaborative and cooperative manner\, putting kindness first and making sure that everyone who works on the film gets a cut of the film’s profit. The premiere event\, scheduled for August 29th at the Wortham Center for the Performing Arts\, is no exception. Missy said\, “This event will serve to launch Erased into screening all over the world. We’re excited to celebrate this milestone with our community right here in Asheville.” \nThe premiere event will feature live performances from the film’s composer (Joshua Hummel) and soundtrack musicians\, a screening of the film\, remarks from the filmmakers\, a red carpet\, merch\, and a mixer with the cast and crew following the screening\, where audience members can get autographs and mingle with the actors and other creatives in person. “It’s a red carpet comeback from Helene for the entire community. I cannot wait to celebrate this film and what it means\, knowing what we’ve all overcome!” \nAbout the Film: Erased takes place over One Crazy Night\, and is the story of Evan\, a thirty-something business man working on the deal of his life. When the now 18 year old son he chose to abandon at birth appears at his door in the middle of the night\, Evan is forced to choose between the deal and the possibility of a relationship with his son. SUMMARY:Celtic Harp Concert Opens New Series Season at St John in the Wilderness
DESCRIPTION:The Friends of Music & the Arts Series at the Episcopal Church of St. John in the Wilderness welcomes autumn with a Celtic Harp concert Sunday\, September 20 at 4:00 p.m.  Open to the public\, the free concert will be held in the spacious Parish Hall opposite the church at 1905 Greenville Highway\, Flat Rock. \nThe harp quartet ensemble\, Banrigh (pronounced Bahn-ree\, meaning “Queen” in Scottish Gaelic) embodies a royal tribute to traditional Celtic music and culture. Four multi-talented musicians from the Midwest and Southeast have performed and traveled together worldwide for a decade\, receiving high praise for their skill and versatility. \nOne of the oldest instruments in the world\, the harp is mentioned in the Book of Genesis. The Celtic Harp\, also called Folk Harp\, evolved over centuries with its recognizable triangular frame and strings made of horsehair appearing in the 8th century. At 30 to 50 inches tall\, the modern Celtic Harp is about half the size of the Concert Grand Harp. \nThe Banrigh quartet’s accomplished musicians include: \nDonna Bennett\, a clinical social worker\, incorporates music in mental health therapy with children and adults. She has released a book of original and therapeutic harp music. She is a board member with the Scottish Harp Society of America. \nMartha Geouge Hill\, a North Carolina native and multi-instrumentalist\, is passionate about her Celtic heritage. She has won awards at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games as a soloist and in ensemble. \n Jen Narkevicius teaches and performs in Washington\, D. C.\, and is Co-Director of Harp Quest working with students.  A Hospice volunteer\, she brings music to the bedside of hospital patients. \n Sue Richards\, a four-time winner of the American National Scottish Harp Championship\, developed and taught the harp program at the Ohio Scottish Arts School.
