Discover Natural Transylvania program at the Transylvania County Library

May 2, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

David Stewart, Southern Mountains Land Management Biologist with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission will be the speaker for the Discover Natural Transylvania program at the Transylvania County Library on Thursday, May 2 at 6:30 pm.

He will cover land and wildlife management practices and their importance.  In Transylvania County he works closely with Pisgah National Forest, DuPont State Forest, Headwaters State Forest, and Toxaway Game Lands.  Land management practices deal with topics such as controlled burns, harvesting timber, road maintenance and habitat manipulation.  Wildlife management includes surveys and monitoring of animals, as well as hunting.

He will also address the differences in state forest land, state park land, national forest land and game lands management and the role the NC Wildlife Resources Commission plays.

Stewart has degrees from Haywood Community College in Fish and Wildlife Management and Western Carolina University in Natural Resource Management with a concentration in forestry.  He has been with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission for 22 years.

Light refreshments are provided by the Friends of the Library who support the Discover Natural Transylvania program series on the first Thursday of most months.  For additional information contact Marcy at 828-884-1820 or marcy.thompson@transylvaniacounty.org.
