SUMMARY:Hendersonville Police Department Launches Community Survey
DESCRIPTION:The Hendersonville Police Department is inviting community members to share feedback about the services it provides. A short online survey will be available for the next two months\, allowing residents and visitors to provide input.\n\n“We’re committed to delivering excellent service\, and an important part of that commitment is understanding how well we meet the community’s needs\,” said Hendersonville Police Chief Blair Myhand. “This survey gives us an opportunity to hear from all the residents and visitors served by our department and where we can continue to grow.”\n\nIn addition to HPD’s PowerEngage text survey system\, which collects feedback from individuals following specific calls for service\, this broader community survey is open to anyone who would like to share input\, regardless of whether they have recently interacted with the department during a call.\n\nThe community survey is conducted as an ongoing part of the police department’s Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) accreditation.\n\nCommunity members are encouraged to complete the survey by Friday\, April 24\, 2026\, at 5:00 PM. Visit www.hvlnc.gov/PoliceTransparency for survey links in English and Spanish.

SUMMARY:Days of Caring Registration Open to All Volunteers
DESCRIPTION:United Way of Henderson County is excited to present the 2026 Days of Caring on May 8th and 9th. Registration is now open for individuals\, families\, or teams to sign up to volunteer at a local nonprofit. A total of 18 local nonprofit agencies have submitted 23 projects to spruce up their facilities\, creating a need for nearly 300 volunteers. \n\n“It is inspiring to see the impact that volunteers can make when they join together for Days of Caring\,” said Kat Carlton\, Executive Director of United Way. “Nonprofits do so much for our community and this is a great way to come together\, lend a hand\, and say thank you.” \n\nThe projects on Friday\, May 8th include a variety that appeals to all kinds of volunteers. Whether you are a gardener\, a handy-person\, or a creative volunteer\, projects like mulching\, landscaping\, construction\, repairs\, sewing\, and painting are available. \n\nSaturday\, May 9th focuses on the National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive – America’s largest single-day food drive. As postal carriers distribute mail\, they also collect donations residents leave bagged at their mailboxes. Volunteers are needed to help drive postal routes to collect the high volume of donations and to help sort and pack food deliveries that arrive at the postal annex. Local donations are shared with local food pantries. \n\nInterested volunteers can find registration instructions by visiting United Way’s website at www.liveunitedhc.org/daysofcaring and choose half- or full-day projects on Friday or Saturday\, or volunteer both days. Volunteers who are registered online by April 4th are guaranteed a free t-shirt. Any questions may be directed to bbartlett@liveunitedhc.org\, or by phone at 828-692-1636 x1103.

SUMMARY:Popular bowling fundraiser for kids is all about cowboy boots
DESCRIPTION:Big Brothers Big Sisters of Henderson\, Polk\, Rutherford\, and Transylvania counties’ \nmost popular fundraiser\, Bowl For Kids’ Sake\, happens April 18 at Tarheel Lanes in \nHendersonville. \nThe event offers a fun\, easy\, and meaningful way to help children get matched with a \nmentor. Every year Bowl For Kids’ Sake has a theme to encourage bowlers to dress up \nin costumes (or not). This year’s theme is “Boots & Bowling.” Don’t be surprised if a \n“Boots on the Ground” line dance breaks out (to learn how to do it\, this tutorial explains \nthe steps). \nBowl For Kids’ Sake participants form teams of four to five bowlers\, bringing together \nfamily members\, friends\, coworkers\, classmates\, and neighbors\, for two hours of \nlighthearted competition and community spirit. Each bowler is asked to donate or raise \nat least $50. Teams are asked to raise $250 total. \nOnce fundraising is complete\, it’s time to have fun. Bowlers pick the time slot they would \nlike to bowl – 11 a.m.-1 p.m. or 1-3 p.m. Shoe rental is included. \nRegistration\, fundraising tips\, and additional details can be found by visiting the Boots & \nBowling page or www.bbbswnc.org. There will be prizes for best costume. \nBBBS recruits\, vets and trains caring adults to mentor eager kids who are looking for \nsomeone to encourage and champion them. \n“Matches\,” as the combined pairs of “Bigs” and “Littles” are called\, explore the child’s \ninterests\, often at school or out in the community\, depending on the type of match and \nthe Big’s interests. Bigs give only a few hours a month of their time and often say they \nget more out of the experience than their Little. \nTo learn more about Big Brothers Big Sisters of Western North Carolina\, visit \nbbbwnc.org.

SUMMARY:Friends of Ecusta Trail Announces Main2Main\, First Official Community Event on the Ecusta Trail
DESCRIPTION:Friends of Ecusta Trail (FOET) is excited to announce Main2Main\, the first official community event to take place on the Ecusta Trail. Scheduled for Sunday\, April 19\, 2026\, Main2Main is a non-competitive Walk & Roll celebration designed to bring the community together to experience the trail in an inclusive\, accessible way. \nMain2Main invites participants to walk\, jog\, run\, bike\, roller blade\, or roller skate at their own pace along the Hendersonville section of the Ecusta Trail. The event is intentionally non-timed and non-race-focused\, emphasizing shared trail use\, community connection\, and celebration of the trail’s progress. \n“This event marks an important milestone for the Ecusta Trail\,” said Laura Rice\, Executive Director of Friends of Ecusta Trail. \n“We are excited to welcome everyone to experience the first six miles of the trail! Whether you are a regular or a first-time trail user\, Main2Main is your invitation to explore our region’s new space for movement and connection. Join us as we celebrate the miles already on the ground and look forward to the future connection all the way to Brevard.” \nThe name Main2Main reflects the long-term vision of the Ecusta Trail to one day connect Main Street Hendersonville to Main Street Brevard. While that full connection is still in progress\, Main2Main serves as an annual community tradition that celebrates both what has already been built and what lies ahead. \nThe event will begin and end at the Hendersonville Welcome Center\, with staggered participation and clear safety measures in place to ensure a positive experience for all trail users. Participants are invited to continue the celebration at the official end-party hosted by Boodas Brewing Company\, where the community can gather\, connect\, and toast to this historic first event on the Ecusta Trail. \nRegistration for Main2Main opened January 29\, 2026\, and will remain open through event day. Participants can choose from multiple distance options and activity types. \nFor more information or to register\, visit:\nhttps://idaph.net/main2main/
