SUMMARY:Hendersonville Police Department Launches Community Survey
DESCRIPTION:The Hendersonville Police Department is inviting community members to share feedback about the services it provides. A short online survey will be available for the next two months\, allowing residents and visitors to provide input.\n\n“We’re committed to delivering excellent service\, and an important part of that commitment is understanding how well we meet the community’s needs\,” said Hendersonville Police Chief Blair Myhand. “This survey gives us an opportunity to hear from all the residents and visitors served by our department and where we can continue to grow.”\n\nIn addition to HPD’s PowerEngage text survey system\, which collects feedback from individuals following specific calls for service\, this broader community survey is open to anyone who would like to share input\, regardless of whether they have recently interacted with the department during a call.\n\nThe community survey is conducted as an ongoing part of the police department’s Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) accreditation.\n\nCommunity members are encouraged to complete the survey by Friday\, April 24\, 2026\, at 5:00 PM. Visit www.hvlnc.gov/PoliceTransparency for survey links in English and Spanish.

SUMMARY:Days of Caring Registration Open to All Volunteers
DESCRIPTION:United Way of Henderson County is excited to present the 2026 Days of Caring on May 8th and 9th. Registration is now open for individuals\, families\, or teams to sign up to volunteer at a local nonprofit. A total of 18 local nonprofit agencies have submitted 23 projects to spruce up their facilities\, creating a need for nearly 300 volunteers. \n\n“It is inspiring to see the impact that volunteers can make when they join together for Days of Caring\,” said Kat Carlton\, Executive Director of United Way. “Nonprofits do so much for our community and this is a great way to come together\, lend a hand\, and say thank you.” \n\nThe projects on Friday\, May 8th include a variety that appeals to all kinds of volunteers. Whether you are a gardener\, a handy-person\, or a creative volunteer\, projects like mulching\, landscaping\, construction\, repairs\, sewing\, and painting are available. \n\nSaturday\, May 9th focuses on the National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive – America’s largest single-day food drive. As postal carriers distribute mail\, they also collect donations residents leave bagged at their mailboxes. Volunteers are needed to help drive postal routes to collect the high volume of donations and to help sort and pack food deliveries that arrive at the postal annex. Local donations are shared with local food pantries. \n\nInterested volunteers can find registration instructions by visiting United Way’s website at www.liveunitedhc.org/daysofcaring and choose half- or full-day projects on Friday or Saturday\, or volunteer both days. Volunteers who are registered online by April 4th are guaranteed a free t-shirt. Any questions may be directed to bbartlett@liveunitedhc.org\, or by phone at 828-692-1636 x1103.

SUMMARY:City of Hendersonville Roadside Mowing Starts April 27
DESCRIPTION:The City of Hendersonville Public Works Department will be conducting roadside mowing on City streets starting April 27 and continuing until late September. Roadside vegetation management is an important part of keeping the transportation network safe and accessible. Regular mowing and trimming improves visibility of traffic signs\, preserves sightlines for motorists\, cyclists\, and pedestrians\, and helps keep sidewalks clear of overhanging limbs\, branches\, and other obstructions. \n\n“Maintaining safe and accessible streets and sidewalks requires regular attention to vegetation along our roadways\,” said Assistant City Manager – Public Services Brent Detwiler. “Our Public Works team uses side-arm mowing to efficiently manage vegetation along more than 68 miles of City streets\, helping keep sightlines open and ensuring roads\, bike lanes\, and sidewalks remain safe and accessible for everyone in our community.” \n\nBecause of the large number of roadway miles the City maintains\, side-arm mowing is the most effective and efficient method for managing roadside vegetation on a citywide basis. Property owners can play an important role by helping keep vegetation on their property trimmed back from the public right-of-way and sidewalks. \n\nFor homes adjacent to roadways\, bushes\, shrubs\, tree limbs\, and other vegetation should be kept out of the roadway and maintained approximately 1-2 feet behind the curb or edge of pavement with a recommended vertical clearance of approximately 16 feet above the road surface. \n\nFor properties with sidewalks\, owners are encouraged to keep sidewalks fully clear and accessible by trimming vegetation so that pedestrians have an unobstructed walking path.  As a general guideline\, sidewalks should remain clear to a minimum height of 8 feet\, and no vegetation\, limbs\, shrubs\, or other objects should extend into the walking path. \n\nKeeping sidewalks clear is especially important to ensure safe passage for individuals using wheelchairs\, walkers\, strollers\, and other mobility devices\, and to help maintain an accessible pedestrian route for all users. \n\nProperty owners near intersections are also asked to trim vegetation and remove debris to preserve clear sightlines for motorists entering and exiting intersections. \n\nResidents’ assistance in maintaining vegetation adjacent to their property helps improve public safety\, reduce the need for side-arm mowing impacts near private landscaping\, and support accessible travel throughout the community. \n\nFor more information about the roadside mowing program\, please visit https://www.hendersonvillenc.gov/public-works or contact the City’s Public Works Department at 828-697-3084.

SUMMARY:Wild Through Their Eyes
DESCRIPTION:From May 1–8\, Tryon Fine Arts Center will host Wild Through Their Eyes\, a special gallery exhibit featuring artwork and poetry created by local elementary students in our Wild for Art program. Through this program\, students learn about native wildlife and express those discoveries through art\, building curiosity\, empathy\, and connection to the natural world at an early age. \nThe exhibit invites the community to experience wildlife through the perspective of these young artists. It is free and open to the public\, and visitors are welcome to explore at their own pace throughout the week. \n“We’re thrilled to partner with Champions for Wildlife on this exhibit\,” says Marianne Carruth\, Executive Director of Tryon Fine Arts Center. “Arts education is a big part of our mission\, and seeing kids express what they’re learning about wildlife through creativity is a perfect fit. Plus\, we’re a bunch of animal lovers at TFAC.” \nIn addition to the exhibit\, two “Sip and Sculpt” events will offer adults a chance to get creative themselves. At these events\, participants can enjoy a drink while creating their own wildlife sculpture\, no prior experience needed.  The first will be a Wild for Box Turtles Sip & Sculpt\, held at Appalachian Mountain Brewery in Mills River on May 11th\, and the next one is at The Stubborn Mule in Landrum on May 19th\, with the animal to be voted on via their social media. \nTogether\, these events reflect Champions for Wildlife’s mission to create early and lasting connections to wildlife through art\, while also offering the broader community simple\, welcoming ways to engage\, create\, and connect. \nThe gallery exhibit is free and open to the public. Sip and Sculpt events are ticketed and require registration. More information\, including event details and registration\, can be found at the bottom of our website homepage www.championsforwildlife.org.

SUMMARY:Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra Continues this Spring with Music in the Vines Series at Marked Tree Vineyard.
DESCRIPTION:The Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra (HSO) announces \nthe latest lineup for\, “Music in the Vines” music showcase at Marked Tree Vineyard in Flat \nRock. This series will feature four diverse ensembles performing against the backdrop of the \nbeautiful rolling hills at Marked Tree. \nThe series begins Saturday May 2 nd with Trey Hensley – referred to as “Nashville’s hottest young \nplayer” by Acoustic Guitar magazine—was voted the 2023 and 2025 IBMA Guitar Player of the \nYear. Hensley received his first GRAMMY® Award at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards as a \nmember of The Taj Mahal Sextet.  Hensley’s hit single Tucson is currently #3 on the IBMA \nBluegrass charts. \nThe next performance on May 15 th is the first return to the stage of The Hot Club of Asheville \nsince Hurricane Helene. The Hot Club is a collective of Asheville’s finest professional \nmusicians\, coming together with a shared love of Gypsy Jazz music. The band honors the \ntraditional Gypsy Swing in the styles of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli from the \n1930-50’s\, while infusing the tradition with more modern qualities of jazz expression \nOur featured artist on May 29 th is guitarist David Grier. Grier’s journey to becoming one of the \ngreatest flat-pick guitarists in the world started at a young age at the feet of Bluegrass legend\, \nBill Monroe. Grier’s father Lamar Grier was a member of “Bill Monroe’s Bluegrass Boys” in the \nmid-1960s. David quickly found a strong passion for guitar and began to develop what is now \nhis own world-renowned distinctive style.  \nThe final concert of the series is on June 14 th and features the transatlantic folk group\, The \nForeign Landers. DESCRIPTION:Experience GODSPELL like\nyou’ve never seen it before. In every generation\, a community gathers around a story\nthat refuses to stay quiet. Staging GODSPELL in 2026 isn’t just an act of theater—it’s an\nact of hope. Now\, more than ever\, the world needs its people to seek justice\,\nforgiveness\, hope\, and love using all available paths. That’s why PilgrimQuests is\npresenting the beloved musical GODSPELL May 20-24 “under the tent at Laurel Green”\nin Hendersonville\, NC.\nGODSPELL\, (conceived and originally directed by John-Michael Tebelak with music and\nnew lyrics by Stephen Schwartz) and currently directed by retired priest Philip Wiehe\, will\ntransform Laurel Green Park into an immersive theatrical experience for six\nperformances only. The production features Joff Masukawa in the role of Jesus and\nBud Murphy in the roles of John the Baptist and Judas. It explores themes of\n“neighboring” and kindness and love\, offering audiences an inspiring\, high-energy take\non the parables and passion story of Jesus.\n“Bringing GODSPELL to life in Laurel Park allows us to break the fourth wall in ways a\ntraditional theater cannot\,” says Philip Wiehe. “This is a raw\, immediate production\ndesigned specifically for this space and this moment.
