Local conservation organization to present on the 2045 Henderson County Comprehensive Plan at a Jan. 30 community meeting in Edneyville.

Edneyville, NC — MountainTrue is hosting a community meeting on Monday, January 30, at the Edneyville Community Center from 5:30-7 p.m. to inform the public about the 2045 Henderson County Comprehensive Plan and how it can help shape a better future for our community.

Henderson County is drafting its new Comprehensive Plan — the blueprint that will guide growth and development for the next twenty years. This is a critical opportunity to have a voice in how Henderson County grows and develops to meet the challenges of climate change, a growing population, and increased pressures on our built and natural environment. County Commissioners expect to finalize the 2045 Comprehensive Plan by May and are scheduled to address Goal 1, “Coordinate development near existing community anchors,” and Goal 2, “Protect and conserve rural character and agriculture,” at their regularly scheduled mid-February meeting.

“Many Henderson County residents are concerned with how the Planning Board’s recommended version of the plan will guide growth for the next 20 years. This meeting is an opportunity for the community to learn about MountainTrue’s recommendations to reach a plan that reflects the priorities named in the community survey, such as the protection of natural resources,” says Nancy Dias, MountainTrue’s Southern Regional Director.

MountainTrue staff and volunteers will review the 2045 Henderson County Comprehensive Plan, its goals, and how it can be improved to better address the priorities of county residents. There will be opportunities to ask questions and sign up to advocate for a better Comprehensive Plan.
