The Annual Apple Recipe Contest will be held on September 4 this year at Shelter 1 in Jackson Park. As usual, many generous merchants have provided prizes for the winners this year. Any interested individual may enter the contest by submitting the Recipe Entry Form and written recipe to North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Henderson County Center by August 31. There are five categories in which recipes and finished products can be entered – Gluten Free, Breads, Pies and Pastries, Desserts, and Kids. The recipes must be original and not copyrighted. The type of apple used should be identified in the recipe, which should contain at least two cups of apples or one cup of applesauce. Contestants will bring their completed product to Shelter 1 in Jackson Park on Friday, September 4, between 8:30 and 10 a.m. Judging will begin at 10:30 a.m. Judges this year will include some familiar Western North Carolina and Henderson County faces. First and Second Place winners will be announced in each of the categories, with a Grand Prize going to the best entry overall, around noon, after judging is complete. Winners will be announced onsite, as well as on Facebook Live as soon as judging is complete. Check out the brochure for entry forms and a complete list of the rules and regulations.
