The Flat Rock Park and Recreation Foundation announces a new program for seniors, older adults, and those with ambulatory issues

September 24, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

The Flat Rock Park and Recreation Foundation announces a new program for seniors, older adults, and those with ambulatory issues. Sit Step Sing is a 30-minute, one-of-a-kind class with curated song lists that encourages expressive movement and participants often sing-along to popular, memorable tunes from their era. Participants in walkers, wheelchairs or anyone that needs gentle exercise are welcome! The classes are super dynamic and toe-tapping fun. Classes are FREE.

Instructor Debra Saalfield is a former national ballroom dance champion who developed the Sit Step Sing senior fitness program in 2018. After watching her husband become disabled at an early age from aggressive bone cancer, Debra found a way for him and others to exercise safely in a chair. Recently relocated to the Flat Rock and Hendersonville area, Debra previously taught the program at 11 prominent residential care facilities in Naples, Florida.

The Park at Flat Rock will host the official debut of Sit Step Sing in North Carolina. The first program is scheduled for Thursday, September 24th from 10:00 to 10:30 am. The program has been adapted for the outdoors and makes it a perfect option for communities and neighborhoods. Caregivers are encouraged to join in on the fun. It is suggested they bring their own chair if they wish and to watch from the side. The Foundation is thrilled to work with Debra and provide such an important health and wellness program for our community at our beloved Park.

Due to social distancing requirements, class size is limited to 15 participants. Participants will meet the instructor at the Staton Pavilion on Thursdays at 10:00 am. This program will run through Thursday, October 29, 2020 with intention of resuming in the Spring of 2021.

Registration will be required via The Park at Flat Rock’s Facebook Page and/or Eventbrite.com. Registration is also available by emailing Debra directly at debrasaalfield48@gmail.com. Interest participants are encouraged to watch and listen if they are not ready to commit. See what the program is about and join in on the fun when you are ready!

For more information regarding this program, please contact Tracey Daniels, Development Director at The Flat Rock Park Foundation, via email at: tracey@villageofflatrock.org. Please note due to Covid-19, the schedule is subject to change.
