The Transylvania County Library’s Discover Natural Transylvania series returns…

November 7, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

The Transylvania County Library’s Discover Natural Transylvania series returns with “Living With Foxes & Coyotes” on Thursday, November 7, at 6:30 pm.  Ashley Hobbs, North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission Assistant Biologist for black bears and other furbearers, will share information about foxes and coyotes and coexisting with them.

Western North Carolina is home to both red and gray fox, although only the gray fox is a native.  Both are similar in size to a small dog, weighing 7 to 15 pounds, but grays have shorter legs.  They like diverse habitats and forage on a variety of prey so can be found in fields, pastures, meadows and open woodlands.

Coyotes are native to North America and have a wide range. They are arguably the hardiest and most adaptable species on the continent.  Like fox, they live in a variety of habitats, from agricultural fields to forested regions and suburban neighborhoods.  They also are opportunistic in finding food and resources.

Hobbs graduated from The University of Georgia with a B.S. Forestry Resources degree.  She has been with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission since January 2019.

Light refreshments are provided by the Friends of the Library who support the Discover Natural Transylvania program series on the first Thursday of most months. For additional information contact Marcy at 828-884-1820 or marcy.thompson@transylvaniacounty.org.
