United Way Seeks Volunteers for Days of Caring

May 10, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

United Way Seeks Volunteers for Days of Caring
Volunteers needed for May service event

United Way of Henderson County is seeking
volunteers from throughout the community for the annual Days of Caring. Across Henderson
County, volunteers are needed to work on dozens of projects at many local nonprofits on Friday,
May 10 and Saturday, May 11. Projects will include planting spring gardens, refreshing flower
beds, landscaping, organizing books for preschoolers, sewing comfort items, beautification
projects and many more. In addition to serving at local nonprofits, volunteers have the
opportunity to help with the nation’s largest one-day food drive on Saturday, May 11 at the
Henderson County Postal Annex.

Volunteers of all ages are needed to come together to create positive change for themselves,
their families and their community. Last year, more than 300 Henderson County volunteers
helped complete projects for Days of Caring. Individuals, families, civic groups, corporate
teams, and others are all encouraged to participate. Volunteers can choose half or full day
projects on either Friday or Saturday – or volunteer both days!

“This annual event brings together people who believe that we can accomplish big things when
we come together,” said Denise Cumbee Long, United Way’s Executive Director. “It is inspiring
to see how much our volunteers really care about their neighbors. And our local nonprofits love
having extra hands to help them with their projects.”

Interested volunteers can find the service projects and an online sign-up by visiting United
Way’s volunteer matching website at www.volunteerhendo.org and then clicking the “Days of
Caring” link. Volunteers who are registered online by April 12 are guaranteed a free t-shirt. All
volunteers will be invited to a Thank You party at Southern Appalachian Brewery on Friday, May
10 from 4:00–6:00 p.m. Any questions can be directed to Malisia Wilkins at
volunteer@liveunitedhc.org, or by phone at 828-692-1636 x1108.
