Big Brothers Big Sisters of WNC’s Art After Dark event supports kids, artists, other Helene survivors

Big Brothers Big Sisters of WNC, in partnership with the River Arts District in Asheville, will host
“Art After Dark: Mentors Make Masterpieces,” 5:30-7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18 at the RAD
Outpost in downtown Asheville. The event will feature live music, a silent auction, a drip art
experience, and heavy hors d'oeuvres. Tickets are $100. All proceeds benefit the children and
families served by Big Brothers Big Sisters of WNC.
“We’re so excited to be offering this event in partnership with our friends in the River Arts
District,” said Lelia Duncan, president and chief executive officer of BBBSWNC. “Art After Dark
is more than a fundraiser. It’s a statement of resilience and collaboration. In the wake of
Hurricane Helene, BBBSWNC and the River Arts District are coming together to uplift two vital
parts of our community – our youth and our artists.”
BBBSWNC works to ensure every child in Western North Carolina has an enjoyable, long-term
relationship with a caring adult who believes in them and sees their potential. The organization
selects and matches mentors with children facing adversity, providing activities, training and
support for families and volunteers that foster successful match relationships and lasting
connections.
The River Arts District in Asheville is a vibrant community of over 700 artists, collectives, and
galleries. As it continues to rebuild after Hurricane Helene’s unprecedented damage, the RAD
Outpost showcases displaced artists and artists currently open to business in the upper RAD –
Roberts Street, Artful Way, Depot Street, and Clingman Avenue.
