The 27th and final Voorhees Family Art Show and Sale will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025,
10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday, November 23, 2025, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at 55 Woodward Ave in
the Norwood Park neighborhood in Asheville. After many years of holding this family show – 21 held
in Asheville – this finale will be a celebration of art, connection, and community.
This weekend art show and sale is free and open to the public. This show will feature new artwork
created by eight Voorhees family members and two guest artists. The event will be hosted again in the
home of Susan Voorhees. Meet this extraordinary family of artists known throughout North Carolina
and the Southeast.
The family is continuing the tradition of supporting a local nonprofit. Over the years, the family has
raised nearly $23,000 and supported 8 local organizations, including MANNA FoodBank and Open
Hearts Art Center. The 27th event will feature a fundraiser to benefit Save Beacon Village, a newly
formed nonprofit. Hurricane Helene’s lasting effects on WNC have been devastating for so many.
David’s daughter Catherine Wood and her family lost their house to Helene flooding in Swannanoa.
Thankfully, they evacuated safely. The Wood’s Beacon Village neighborhood was one of the hardest hit
areas in Western NC. The Wood family will be moving back into their rebuilt house this fall. Many
neighbors are not so fortunate, and this year’s fundraiser is another opportunity to support these
recovery efforts. More details on our website: www.voorheesfamilyart.com
The arts legacy began with Edwin Voorhees (1919-1999) and Mildred Voorhees (1924-2007) both
accomplished painters and well-known NC artists. The first Voorhees Family Art Show was held in the
family home in Morehead City in 1998. Edwin passed away the following year, but the Voorhees
Family Art Show continued in Morehead for several years. With Mildred’s move to Asheville the show
followed with it being hosted in one of several Voorhees family homes in North Asheville ever since.
The Voorhees Family was recognized with an exhibition “Nature & Nurture: The Voorhees Family
Artistic Legacy” at the NC Arboretum during the summer of 2022.
This year’s show celebrates the last of 27 shows for the Voorhees Family. It brings to a close the legacy
begun by Edwin Voorhees back in 1998 and going for decades. The family members each plan to
continue their artwork and you can watch news on the website for current activities, shows and class
offerings. We hope you will continue to follow along with the journey.
Three of Edwin and Mildred’s six children, 2 daughters-in-law, 2 grandchildren and a spouse will be
showing their work at this event: Susan Voorhees, pastel paintings; Susan’s daughter Susie Frayer,
jewelry; Jane Voorhees, watercolor & pastel paintings; Amy Voorhees (son Chad’s wife), oil paintings;
David Voorhees, wood-fired stoneware and porcelain pottery; David’s wife, Molly Sharp Voorhees,
sterling silver and gold jewelry. David’s daughter Elizabeth Voorhees Becker, photographs and her
husband James Becker, resin art. Also exhibiting are guest artists Cheryl Stippich, stained glass and
polymer clay, and Chad Alice Hagen, handmade books & framed textiles.
