Community Foundation of Henderson County
announces a community-wide retirement celebration honoring President and CEO McCray V.
Benson on Friday, May 15, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Burntshirt Vineyards.
Hosted by Jeff Egolf and Hall Waddell, the drop-in event is open to the public. Community
members are invited to stop by, share their well wishes, and celebrate Benson’s nearly 21 years
of leadership. Guests attending are welcome to bring a card or photo to share. For guests that
are unable to attend, please send any stories, messages, or photos to info@cfhcforever.org.
Benson has led the Community Foundation of Henderson County for more than two decades,
guiding a period of significant growth and deepening the Foundation’s impact in Henderson
County and surrounding areas. During his tenure, the Foundation has significantly grown its
assets, strengthened community partnerships, and helped steward donor support on a wide
range of initiatives that benefit the people of Henderson County.
To honor his legacy and enduring commitment to the field, the Foundation has established the
McCray V. Benson Thought-Leadership Fund. The fund will support continued education,
professional development, and learning opportunities for staff and board members to help
strengthen innovation and advance philanthropic thought-leadership in Henderson County for
years to come. Contributions to the fund may be made during the event or online by visiting the
Community Foundation’s website.
Honoring his leadership and legacy, Ruth Birge, Board Chair of Community Foundation of
Henderson County, shared, “McCray has been a steady and inspiring presence for this
Foundation and for our community. His passion for philanthropy and genuine care for
Henderson County have left an indelible mark, and we are deeply grateful for his years of
leadership and service.”
Reflecting on his time with the Foundation, Benson expressed deep gratitude for the community
he has served and the relationships built along the way. His legacy is one of connection,
stewardship, and a steadfast belief in the power of local philanthropy.
