10th Annual Be Active Day

January 26, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

The 10th Annual Be Active Day will be held Saturday, January 26, from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., at center court at the Blue Ridge Mall. Sponsored by the Henderson County Department of Public Health, the free event features information, activities and demonstrations to inspire children to move more each day.

“Be Active Day is all about kids being physically active and having fun,” said Beverly Clark, health promotion coordinator at the Department of Public Health. “Moving every day can improve children’s physical and emotional health and help to prevent obesity. Youth who are overweight or obese are at risk of developing chronic diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes at an early age.”

Center court demonstrations begin at 11:15 a.m. and will continue throughout the day. These include: interactive Tai Chi, self-defense and kid’s karate by the Traditional Martial Arts Center; Nerf tennis by Western NC and Henderson County Tennis Association; kid’s activity by the Hendersonville YMCA; children’s warm up exercise by Baby Boot Camp; acting out a story by Smart Start Partnership for Children; and high intense, interval training movements by Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont.

Other participants include: Active Routes to School, Blue Ridge Health, Blue Ridge Humane Society, Friends of the Oklawaha Greenway, The Free Clinics “Health is Contagious” program, Girls on the Run of WNC, WIC, Carol’s Broadway Dance, Launch Trampoline Park, Mills River Farmers’ Market and Henderson County Parks and Recreation.

This year two Plasma Cars will be given away as door prizes. Instructions to register for a door prize will be available at the registration table under the large Start sign.
