After a two year hiatus due to Coronavirus, Hendersonville
Ballet is excited to present A Christmas Journey to The Nutcracker, Friday, December 10, 2021 at 7:00 pm, and
Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm at Bo Thomas Auditorium on the campus of Blue Ridge
Community College in Hendersonville, NC. Hendersonville Ballet has traditionally presented a Christmas
production for the Western North Carolina Community, with the most recent being its first showing of
Tchiakovsky’s The Nutcracker in December 2019. Unfortunately, 2020 saw an interruption of these popular
performances due to the spread of the Coronavirus. This year’s much anticipated production marks the return of
Hendersonville Ballet’s Christmas extravaganzas, and will showcase talented dancers of all ages from
Hendersonville and surrounding counties, featuring choreography performed to holiday favorites, a return of the
second act of The Nutcracker, and an appearance by the Jolly Ole Elf himself, Santa Claus.
Hendersonville Ballet Artistic Director, Kevin Overbey says “All of us have been affected in one way or another
by the Coronavirus Pandemic; people are hungry for connection and entertainment and beauty; a desire to return
to an easier time. With A Christmas Journey to the Nutcracker, we hope to offer those intangibles to our
audiences. Our dancers and choreographers have worked hard under difficult conditions – all while following
necessary safety guidelines – to be able to offer this gift to the community.
“Because we’re a non-profit focused on dance training more than theatre, this production is a labor of love on the
part of our choreographers, dancers, and board members. The goal is to present beautiful dancing, and lovely
costumes and staging, a taste of The Nutcracker, and traditional holiday music. This is our gift to the Western
North Carolina community at large, and I think audiences will enjoy this Christmas production as much as any
holiday dance production they may have seen.”
Tickets for A Christmas Journey to The Nutcracker are $30.00 for adults and $15.00 for students; reserved seating
is available for an additional fee. All profits from the performance fund student scholarships and the company’s

SoDance Inc., operating at Hendersonville Ballet, is a non-profit, public charity committed to providing
affordable, professional dance training to young people from local communities. In 2007, SoDance, supported by
Southside Dance Studio of Fletcher, NC, launched a community outreach program offering formal dance
performances at local schools and community events. In 2015 SoDance became Hendersonville Ballet and the
performance focus shifted from small venues to larger-scale performances.
Under the artistic direction of Kevin Overbey, Hendersonville Ballet provides a strong foundation in classical
