Artists or sponsors wishing to participate in the 2019 ArtScape Banner

November 18, 2018 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Artists or sponsors wishing to participate in the 2019 ArtScape Banner project in downtown Hendersonville should send in applications soon.  Deadlines for both have been announced:  January 18, 2019 is the final Call for Entry date for artists who wish to be considered to show; January 15, 2019 is the deadline for those wanting to sponsor a banner.

Artists must submit their work, application, and entry fee of $35 by or before the January 18 deadline.  The application and more information on requirements for this juried outdoor exhibition is available at www.artscapehvl.org.  A total of 40 artists will be chosen to participate in the 2019 show.  Artists must live in Henderson County and be 18 years or older.  The outdoor art gallery will be on exhibit April 2019-March 2020.

Sponsors for the 2019 show may sponsor/purchase a banner at a cost of $200 per banner until Dec. 31, 2018 or $225 January 1-15, 2019.  The sponsor name will be visible on each banner.  Only 40 banners will be produced, so interested sponsors should send in applications and fee well before the deadline of January 15.  Banners can be sponsored by individuals, businesses, galleries, and others to show support for the ArtScape outdoor art exhibit, which has become a popular draw for students, tourists, and local art enthusiasts.  Sponsors will receive their banners at the end of the showcase year.  More information and application forms are available at www.artscapehvl.org or www.acofhc.org.

The current banners of outstanding artwork flutter on street poles in the autumn breezes in the 2018 outdoor art gallery show along Main Street, the downtown avenues, and Historic Seventh Avenue.  These art banners will remain in place through the fall and winter, and will be replaced by the 2019 selection of artwork in April.

“We have had an outstanding response to this artistic project in downtown Hendersonville,” reported ArtScape committee chair and artist Deborah Lynn Johnson.  “Both the sponsors and the artists have been excited to participate in the town’s unique outdoor art show, which reflects the outstanding artistic community we have.  The 2019 show is already seeing strong response by sponsors, so I encourage folks to get in their sponsorship applications as soon as possible.”

Colorful brochures describing each artist, each sponsor, and each banner location are available in many downtown shops and businesses as well as at the Visitor Center at 201 South Main.  In addition, an ArtScape Adventure Hunt Contest for kids is on-going for families and young people to enjoy.  Game-cards, which explain how children and young people can earn a chance at monthly prizes by answering questions along the route of the ArtScape art banner exhibit, are available at Hendersonville Visitor Center.

“Fall and winter are good seasons to stroll along and easily view the banners and the artwork,” Johnson continued.  “We are already preparing for next year’s exhibition, but we encourage everyone who enjoys art by local artists to take advantage of the current show.”

ArtScape Hendersonville is a community-building project adding interest and color to the downtown area, showcasing locally created art and helping make the city an exciting and unique art destination. The annually changing selection of banners on Main Street, Seventh Avenue, and the downtown side streets creates a unique twist on an outdoor gallery experience.
