Four Seasons Observes National Healthcare Decisions Day 2021 Announces free, virtual community event

April 16, 2021 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

In observance of National Healthcare Decisions Day, April 16th, Four Seasons wants to not only recognize this day of importance but encourage everyone to act!

National Healthcare Decisions Day is observed annually on April 16th and is aimed at increasing the number of Americans who have completed an advance directive (“living will”), in which they name the
person who will make medical decisions for them in the event they are seriously ill and cannot make their own care decisions. Experts say only about 20-30% of Americans have completed an advance directive, even though it is recommended that all people age 18 and older have one.

“It’s understandable that people would put off discussing the topic of serious illness and death, but it’s essential to have this conversation with your loved ones in advance,” Millicent Burke-Sinclair, CEO,
Four Seasons says. “It’s a discussion that should take place in the living room, not in the hospital waiting room when it may be too late, or in a rushed conversation when decisions are often made out of emotion versus rationale.”

During this time when events are being cancelled that may offer our community the opportunity to complete advance directives, please remember Four Seasons is here. Staff and trained volunteers are
available to do virtual tele-conference calls with community members to discuss advance care plans. As part of this commitment to our community, Four Seasons will offer two Advance Care Planning informational sessions on April 14 at 11am and 1pm. These sessions will be hosted by Attorney Cindy Schirmer of Prince, Youngblood, and Massagee Law Firm. Sessions are free of charge and open to the public. You can register for this event by emailing Info@FourSeasonsCFL.org.

“Creating an advance care plan deals with the things people say that matter most to them,” Four Seasons CEO Millicent Burke-Sinclair said. “It allows them to clearly state what kind of care they want or
don’t want, so their families aren’t left to guess.”
