Free community health talk on a mobile service that helps people having a mental health crisis

May 23, 2019 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Polk Fit, Fresh, and Friendly (PF3) will host a free community health talk on a mobile service that helps people having a mental health crisis. The 30-45-minute talk by a professional counselor will be Thursday, May 23, at noon at the Polk County Public Library in Columbus, NC. The public is invited to this free community service event.

The guest speaker will be Don Killian, team leader for Mobile Crisis Management services by RHA Health Services. His mobile team of healthcare professionals responds to about 300 calls for help each month in Western North Carolina. North Carolinians who believe they are having a mental health crisis can call 888-573-1006, and help will arrive within two hours, normally within 30-45 minutes. There is no charge for the mobile mental health services that will go to your home, workplace, or wherever the need is. Generally, a mental health crisis can be anything from feeling overwhelmed by life and depression to suicidal thoughts and drug overdoses.

Killian will speak in detail on the Mobile Crisis Management services and on ways to better cope with life’s darker moments. Attendees are welcome to bring and eat lunch during the health talk, which will last no more than one hour.

This free public-service health talk is made possible by PF3, a nonprofit consortium of volunteers dedicated to making a difference in the health and wellness of Polk County, NC. It is a broad-based group of community leaders, health professionals, and concerned community members working together to plan and implement effective strategies to promote wellness.
