Hendersonville Community Band ‘Tis The Season” Concert
O Come, all ye music lovers. Come celebrate the Holiday season with popular local
institution, The Hendersonville Band, with featured guests, The Blue Ridge Ringers,
directed by Robert Currier. The concert will be on Sunday, December 2nd at 3p.m.in the
Conference Hall of Blue Ridge Community College, Campus Drive, Flat Rock.
Under the direction of Winford Franklin, the audience will be treated to many familiar
tunes, some in unfamiliar arrangements, and to some less familiar selections, traditional
and modern, all joyously anticipating the season.
Our guest, The Blue Ridge Ringers is a community handbell ensemble based In
Hendersonville. Currently comprising 16 members, the Ringers have been performing
all genres of advanced handbell music since 1995 –drawing on a combined expertise of
hundreds of years! Director, Robert Currier, is well known for his handbell directing
expertise as well as his own published arrangements of handbell music.
“Festival Fanfare for Christmas” will set the seasonal mood, featuring many old favorites
spot-lighting all sections of the band. How many carols can you identify?
“A Most Wonderful Christmas” incorporates seasonal favorites, “Winter Wonderland”, I’ll
be Home for Christmas”, Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas”, “It’s the Most
Wonderful Time of the Year”, and “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”.
If you’re familiar with the traditional Dreidel song, you’ll love “Dreidel Dance” a modern,
light hearted, toe-tapping mash-up of the Dreidel song and Hava Nagila, featuring some
fine Klezmer style solos.
“It’s Christmas” and an opportunity to sing along to perennial seasonal favorites
including, “Jingle Bells,” “Adeste Fideles ,” and “Joy to the World.”
“Away in a Manger” delightfully intertwines two melodies with the same name.
“Russian Christmas Music”, a suite based on traditional Russian carols, songs and
cathedral music. Originally sung by male voice choirs, arranged for band to mimic that
genre, the music may be less familiar but isquite inspiring.
“A Praetorius Hymn” a beautiful piece based on an old German Advent hymn commonly
known as “Lo how a rose e’er blooming”.
The holidays start here, so don’t miss this performance. The hall has open seating and
there is plenty of free handicap accessible parking behind the hall. Tickets are $10,
