“Thanks To Teachers” Block Party Set for June 2

June 2, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Just in time for Teacher Appreciation Week, local event organizers and supporters of public education are thrilled to announce a long-awaited celebratory block party for educators in Henderson County Public Schools!

On the evening of Thursday, June 2, the first annual “Thanks To Teachers” Block Party will be held in front of the Historic Henderson County Courthouse, kicking off summer and sharing the love with local educators from 6 to 8 p.m.

Legendary local band, Tuxedo Junction, will headline the event, starting the fun at 6 p.m. with party music for dancing and singing along. Interspersed in the band’s sets will be lots of ‘world-class cheerleading’ and major “Thank you’s” to HCPS teachers from area dignitaries and community leaders. Food trucks and the Pepsi Wagon will be onsite for snacks and cold beverages.

“Our educators in Henderson County, NC – and across the nation – do an incredible job preparing generations of future leaders for what lies ahead as they positively shape lives and focus on careers,” said Joey Moore, local event coordinator, front man for Tuxedo Junction, and proud husband of an HCPS middle school teacher.

“Unfortunately, far too frequently, it can be a thankless profession where many in the community don’t know the level of commitment, time and love that the average educator gives back on a daily basis,” said Moore. “And then came a global pandemic – which put plans for this very celebratory event on hold! For the last two years, all bets were off when it came to consistent education, learning environments, and expectations. Additionally, a far greater negativity was heaped upon the education community!”

Generously underwritten by the Skip Sawyer/State Farm Agency, the “Thanks to Teachers” Block Party is free and open to anyone and everyone associated with Henderson County Public Schools – including all students, parents, family and friends! The public is encouraged to participate in the party, and help celebrate their local educators.

“We are fortunate to have some of the most skillful, compassionate, dedicated educators and staff teaching our children and leading our schools in this community. And these past two years especially, they’ve done so with exceptional grace, flexibility, and resiliency,” said HCPS Public Information Officer Molly McGowan Gorsuch. “So as a district, we are thrilled and thankful to see this grassroots outpouring of support for these amazing individuals, and look forward to June 2!”
