United Way of Henderson County has announced that its 10th annual Rising Leaders program will launch as a virtual program for the 2020-21 year. Participants will attend monthly sessions via Zoom, and they will not be required to attend any in-person events to graduate. Rising Leaders is an eight-month intensive program designed to develop the next generation of community leaders and board members for Henderson County nonprofit organizations.

Participants will attend monthly information sessions covering a wide variety of topics including fundraising, marketing, parliamentary procedures, race, equity and inclusion and board basics. The program is free to participants, thanks to generous sponsorships from WNC Bridge Foundation and Carolina Village.

“We’re committed to building better board members and also expanding the pool of board candidates in Henderson County,” said United Way Director of Community Impact Sarah Kowalak. “We help make those connections between those individuals who are interested in serving their community and nonprofit agencies who are looking for qualified candidates to diversify their board leadership,” she added.
There will be an online information session held on Wednesday, August 5 at 12 noon. Interested candidates should visit liveunitedhc.org/get-involved/rising-leaders-program to register for the information session, view course dates and complete an application. Applications will be accepted until August 21. Class size is limited to 20.
