Hunter Subaru Presents “Drive for Kids” Golf Tournament, Honoring Local Hero
Proceeds benefit local youth at Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County Hendersonville, NC –
Local golf enthusiasts will soon gather to engage in a day of competitive play at the Cliffs at Mountain Park. The event benefits the Boys & Girls Club of
Henderson County and will include a memorial salute to local philanthropist and Club
ambassador, William “Bill” Stokes, Jr. As chairman of the early rendition of the tournament for 19 consecutive years, Stokes was instrumental in generating hundreds thousands of dollars in support for the Club’s youth development programs. Last year, Hunter Subaru stepped in as presenting sponsor, bringing tournament play to The Cliffs and providing an elite experience for sponsors and players.
2020 tournament Chairman Blair Craven remarked that under its new name, the Hunter Subaru Drive For Kids Tournament will continue the tradition that Bill Stokes established nearly a quarter century ago. “We knew the time was right in 2019 to take this tournament to the next level,” Craven remarked. “We just needed the right sponsor to allow for that growth. Hunter Subaru provided that and more. 2019 saw the most return to the (Boys & Girls) Club in the tournament’s history, and we have set a goal to bust through that record again in 2020,” he said.
Tom Hunter, President of Hunter Subaru and Hunter Automotive Group, noted that the Club’s
work and impact are distinctly important today, especially as the organization has adapted to operate as a Remote Learning Site, serving hundreds of young people with extended-day services and academic supports during COVID-related school closures.
“We support the Club because of the profound impact that it has on the county’s neediest youth, even during the pandemic. The Club’s ability to deliver life-changing support to children and families in Henderson County benefits us all and we are proud to present this tournament, especially this year as we honor Bill Stokes for its beginnings,” he said.
